Reading Blogs & Watching Sahara

I have to admit it. I like reading other people's weblogs. There is a certain fascination to read about someone's personal thoughts and writings. It's almost something forbidden about it. What would you call it? Online voyeurism, Electronic snooping? It's like reading postcards. You get a snapshot about someone's experiences or an insight into an individual's personality from reading the text.

It gives me an opportunity to read how people think and feel. How do they convey their message? How do they communicate to the onscreen reader, whether it is just the writer or for others (family, friends, job)? For personal blogs, it is just so purely innate and real, and people are sharing their experiences, which is totally cool. For some people, they have a difficult time to verbally express their opinions or feelings to another person(s) in front of them. They are able to express themselves much more effectively (safely) when the written word is laid out. Also, I totally respect people who are able to be transparent in either cyberspace or in person. So many people don't tell the truth, even when they are hiding behind a pseudonym.

I think why I'm reading these weblogs is to find some connection with that person. What are the similarities that we have? Do we share the same reference point? Would we be friends or enemies? Sometimes, the log entries evoke an emotional response. For example, I read something funny from an entry mentioning constipation as rectal apathy. I know. It's a bad example, but you've got to admit it's a hilarious term.

On Wednesday night, I watched the movie Sahara with a female friend. I wasn't expecting too much, but I was greatly surprised that I enjoyed it. It was a good action flick. The characters were likable, and the plot flowed. (Although I have a difficult time believing that a Civil War Ironside Ship traveled from Virginia to a river in the African continent, it is definitely a work of fiction.) What is so funny about the movie is that about half of the film is shot over water.

Today's verse: Isaiah 40:3 (Amplified Bible)

A voice of one who cries: Prepare in the wilderness the way of the Lord [clear away the obstacles]; make straight and smooth in the desert a highway for our God!
