DC summer & traffic

It definitely feels like summer, and it has arrived to DC in a very pronounced manner. It is especially unfortunate in the capital city when you are riding on the Metrorail on the way to work. If you ever travel by rail, then you've probably encountered people, like tourists who pack their bodies on the trains to visit the Washington museums, monuments, and govt buildings. Sometimes, the air isn't very fresh.

Like other subway trains in major cities, there are certain times in the day when the trains are in high use. If there are no available seats, there are arm/hand rails along the train in which commuters can grab for stability. Unfortunately, the rails are quite high up in distance for the average person to grasp with their arms. You get picture when you see large groups of people, especially tourists wearing t-shirts/tank tops dripping with sweat grabbing for support.

A few weeks ago, I took the day off from work and picked up mom from Washington Reagan airport. A couple nights before pickup, she left a voice message with minimal info about her arrival. What details about her arrival were given --- @ 3:30 pm at the WAS airport. That was it. Nada mucho.

So, what do I end up doing? I walked along the airport baggage claim areas from A to C terminals at least twice for about an hour and fifteen minutes. Not a nice stroll when you're walking in humid DC summer weather. I finally found her after 4:30 pm. We didn't get out of the airport until an hour later. Then, we hit downtown rush hour traffic. So, we decided to head out to Mango Mike's restaurant and bar. Before it was located at it's current spot, it was tucked around in a hideaway spot on Duke St. Also, it was highly rated for its Carribbean seafood cuisine. At its present location, the restaurant is spacious and the atmosphere is festive in bright colors. The wait staff are quite attentive. Unfortunately, the food has changed drastically since I was last here. It didn't change for the better. We weren't very hungry, but we ordered appetizers. The conch fritters were very bland, and the served portion for crabmeat and spinach dip was just too small.

I didn't arrive to her house until after 7 pm.

Genesis 8:22 (New International Version)

As long as the earth endures,
seedtime and harvest,
cold and heat,
summer and winter,
day and night
will never cease.
