On January 4th, the DC Examiner brought up an issue that I think is affecting contemporary evangelicals in the DC area. The article cites Christians *hopping* to other services, besides attending their home church.
I admit that I do the same thing.
The article cites that critics, such as conservative evangelicals and various denominational ministers, say that it is a consumerist approach to faith. I would like to get my hands on those interviews to get more details about what they said.
If you have read my blog extensively, you know that I like visiting other churches. Friends and family invite me to their churches, services, and church functions. Churches will have services on different days and different times in comparison to my home church and other churches.
Where does one go to worship, praise, pray, study the bible and fellowship in a corporate setting when their home church is not available at that moment?
We always hear from people that "there is no perfect church" on the planet. If people have a sin nature, then churches are going to be imperfect, because people fill churches.
I say "there are no perfect churches, but there are excellent churches."
Some churches have great teachings, while other churches have great preachings, and still there are others that offer great healings.
Whether you want to attend churches with large congregations, like McLean Bible, Immanuel Bible Church, or Church of the Redeemer, or if you attend churches with smaller congregations like Metro Morningstar DC or where the church meets in a single classroom, there are churches out there for you.
If you like churches with big gospel choirs, small praise bands, or a single person singing the worship songs, there are churches for you.
If you like churches with a loud Spirit-filled congregation or a congregation focusing with silent meditation on the Word, there are churches out there for you.
Ultimately, people will go where they will be spiritually fed and feel accepted.
Are you getting the picture?
It's great to see the Body of Christ getting connected in different ways.
Today's verse: Romans 12:5 (New International Version)
5so in Christ we who are many form one body,
and each member belongs to all the others.
