Although the Winter Olympic games have been on the network TV stations for the last few days, I haven't really been interested in watching the events. At any time, I usually get hyped about international sports competitions, but this year I haven't been too excited to watch. I do catch up with the news highlights.
I guess it's not the Olympics events/spectacle itself that I've lost interest. It's the extremely overt marketing, politicization, and controversies (prevalent steroids usage, for example) surrounding the Olympics which led to my waning interest. Recently, I read about how the Danish athletes were assigned serious security detail while they are staying in Turin due to the political cartoon debacle.
While the world is in strife, I found an interesting piece from the Baltimore Sun talking about how some Olympic athletes fuse their faith while staying in the Turin Olympic village areas and when competing.
24Do you not know
that in a race all the runners compete,
but [only] one receives the prize?
So run [your race]
that you may lay hold [of the prize]
and make it yours.
