A Baltimore Sun article today cites an attempt by some Christian Evangelicals to protect the planet. Yes, you heard it. It sounds like this type of evangelical effort isn't a first attempt. The article also states even Rick Warren, best-selling author of "The Purpose-Driven Life", has signed on a global warning pact. Not too many Evangelicals have agreed with pro-environmentalist/global warming topics.
Specifically, it says that in October the National Association of Evangelicals has come to terms with liberal segments to consider the association for "Christian Care" of the planet.
In my opinion, taking care of God's creation is worth the care. I guess the question is to what degree is this an issue for Christian evangelicals. However you feel or think of this topic, you may want to look at the Book of Genesis (Chapters 1~3) and Ecclesiastes 1:1-12 (The Message) for your review.
Although most evangelicals are not siding with environmentalist efforts, Ted Haggard, current NAE president, in early February says that the organization had pulled away from this type of effort due to lack of evangelical support, or should I say, membership support.
I'll end with a line from Cal Thomson's article that seems very appropriate.
- ". . . a message that "cleans up" the inside of the hearts of men and women and places them in a position to more powerfully influence this world and prepare themselves and others for the world to come."
Yes, we're called to share the cleansing truth, aren't we?
