Weekend events and "Think Summer!"

My planned outing to see a hockey game was canceled for tonight. So, I'm here to do the next best thing: post a blog entry.

This morning, the church held a men's breakfast meeting at 7:30 am. Ughh, it was way too early. The HS got me out of bed and to get there at a reasonable time. The fellowship was quite good, and the associate pastor was on a roll, making people laugh at his stories and jokes. A person would be quite surprised to meet him and find out that he was a former heavy drug user. After the breakfast, we gathered for praise and worship and listened to a teaching on what else, "to be a man in this culture". I didn't take notes, but he did a good job describing how this culture emasculates men.

After the men's breakfast meeting was over, I wound up at the Praise & Worship practice. Yes, I did sing my heart out, without knowing what I was doing. I can't read a note to save me from . . . . Well, you know what I mean. Surprisingly, I didn't get booed of the stage. If I make it to service tomorrow, then it will be my first praise band performance!

On another note, it is forecast to snow from 3 to 8 inches during the weekend, depending upon which area is affected. Although it is snowing on and off in the DC area today, I'm trying to keep focused on warm thoughts. So far, the freezing drizzle isn't sticking to the ground. I'm ready for this winter to be over. For the last couple weeks, we got a little taste of spring, as the temperatures were in the 60s for a couple days.

It's quite funny to see the supermarkets filled with anxious people piling their carts with milk, bread and toilet paper. Unfortunately, I ran out of milk yesterday. Without thinking clearly and forgetting how DC residents in a panic rush to the stores before a storm, even at around 11 pm last night, I grabbed milk and juice to wait for some time to get even close to a register. Only two live persons at were at registers and the self-serve registers were packed with extensive lines. NOTE to SELF: Do NOT ever go to a supermarket before a predicted snowstorm.

Yes, the traveler will be heading to New Orleans in June for work. Last month, I was alerted that a bunch of us from work will be traveling to hurricane-torn city for a few days. I'm not looking forward to the humidity and heat, but I'm looking forward to seeing the city again.

Hey, it's my baby brother's birthday tomorrow. He would cringe if I called him that. Dear mom is hosting a birthday bash dinner at some restaurant. I hope the restaurant has vegetarian options, as I'm still working on my fast from eating any meats. It was going pretty well so far, until . . .

Back to the topic of the men's breakfast, it was such a small torture to see and smell breakfast meats on the tables. I was salivating at the sight of bacon. I ended up eating a small bagel with a little butter, a cinnamon roll, and a pickle. The pickle was the only fruit/vegetable option on the menu! NOTE to SELF: Pick up fruit salad/options on the way to the next men's breakfast meeting.

Sometime tomorrow afternoon, I'll squeeze some racquetball play with C____ and M___. It's been about a month since I played. Let's keep focused on warm thoughts.

YOU think summer, Mister Meanderer. Others of us ENJOY winter, and will think warmth when it's actually supposed to be here. SNOW ON!!!

Snow can be fun, when you can view the weather from the inside!

Even I can infrequently tolerate the cold. It's just the leftover slush, salt-sand mixture and puddles are definitely on my yuucch list.

I agree with Mr. Magic. Snow On Man! Although I did spend the whole weekend indoors, but I still love the snow. Oh, and hey traveller dude, I didn't know you sang in the praise band!!

Poz Roz,

Snow, woah! It's gotta go. I'm glad it is now melting and we didn't get much snow in the NoVA area as compared to other states, like NY.

As for singing with the Praise band on Sunday, it was fun. I was much more nervous when we practiced vs the actual performance. You've got to go up there as well. I would love to see it.

Yeah, the slush, sand, salt, combination of it all, not so nice, I'd agree. But, the not-so-good just doesn't outweigh the good, the joy of watching it fall, lying white on the evergreens, perched on bare tree branches, blanketing the earth in a smooth layer of white. Even more fun-taking a walk in the snow. Snowfall is one of God's greatest inventions Trav, next to chocolate. Tell him Roz.

It's gettin' cold again Trav. I'm gonna be praying for you know what!!!
