The weekend in review and a souvenir of sorts

On Saturday afternoon, I arrived safely back to DC via National Airport.

It was an extremely long flight, approximately 20 hours (not including the stop overs in Japan and in Detroit).

Unfortunately, besides the little trinkets and souvenirs for family, friends and co-workers, I brought a little friend, a minor stomach virus of some type. I obviously wasn't in the greatest mood when I finally arrived home.

It must have happened at my departure dinner on the night before I left for the Manila airport.

We were invited to a certain Japanese restaurant. The food was quite good, but I was given a light beer with ice. During my trip to the Philippines, I was very conscious about drinking (and eating) unsavory foodstuff and drinks. I figured enough alcohol would kill anything that would upset my tummy. Alas, I got caught!

It's been a slow recovery. The worst part is over, but I'm taking gulps/schwigs of Pepto Bismol during the weekend. It helped prevent my stomach from cramping, which was a consistent problem during the plane ride.

Overall, the vacation was great, awesome sights and very friendly and loving people. It was nice to see that God's presence in the Philippines.

It may be a couple days before I post another entry, but I'm so glad to be back!

On Monday, Roz and I went to see this movie. The ensemble cast was great, and I'm a big fan of this actor. Unfortunately, the movie did not tie together well. There were gaps about character motivations, character profiles, and etc. Anyway, when I become much more coherent, I'll post an extensive review later.

Tip: Here are a few things I would strongly recommend to bring with you as you travel via international flight.

* A copy of your passport
* A couple bottles of water
* Trail mix for any long gaps between meals
* Toilet paper (for those emergencies)
* Pepto bismol
* If you don't have TP, bring plenty of napkins.
* Hand desanitizer

What can I say about the Philippines? It's a place with conflicting and yet blending world of ideologies and diverse peoples and cultures. Here are my lasting impressions about that country. I captured some words to denote my emotions about the trip.

Tropical. Romanticism. Passionate. Roman Catholicism. Westerner. Karmic consequences. Passionate. Friendly. Caring. Country. Familial. Family. Fearful. Tribal. Christian. Torrential. Spanish influences. Loyal. Superstitious. Beautiful.
