"Overheard at Aunt J_____'s place" and the weekend in review

Oh, family reunions! You gotta love them, right? (Yes, I'm being a lot facetious, while I write this post.)

During the weekend, my parents went to a family/clan reunion in Williamsburg VA. I planned to visit for a day to see my long, lost cousins, but plans fell through.

Thank goodness.

My mother's older sister came to speak at the family reunion to talk about maintaining your cultural heritage. Weird thing is she is staying with another relative who lives nearby, instead of staying over at my mother's house. People have asked me if they are fighting. There is some type of family controversy during these summer trips. So, people were focusing on this potential issue. I finally had the opportunity to ask her when we were at a dinner party at Aunt J____'s. BTW, the food wasn't too bad.

Mom: "We're not fighting. As long as she is staying over at xxxxxx's place, we're fine." She was sounding a bit snippy while she said this. Dad and I just rolled our eyes at each other and smirked.

You've got to love family, eh?

On Saturday, a co-worker and I went to a church wedding in Upper Marlboro for another colleague who will be leaving us within the next couple weeks to head back to the lone star state. We caught up with other office mates (and previous office mates). I even got an opportunity to see my office "Spiritual Mentor" who left a successful director position several months ago to start her own business.

Said colleague divorced her husband a couple years ago and they are back together again. They have two boys. God has healed their marriage wounds throughout the year. Even God allowed me a couple opportunities to pray for her during her tenure (in my office, of all places.)

On Sunday, I got an opportunity to survey the damage to the church during service. Very minimal. Obviously, people were talking and reviewing the boarded up area. After service, I stayed for a meal and Bible study with the Filipino Fellowship. Although the Bible study was discussed in both Tagalog and English, I was able to follow the discussion. They were studying the Book of Romans, and the focus of today's study was the transformation of our lives through Jesus Christ. Definitely a good review of Romans and a good place in the bible to show new believers about the Gospel.

On Monday, our office closed for the day so we can enjoy the extended holiday. I played some tough racquetball games with a couple friends. I'm still feeling sore today. Uggh! I'm helping them train for a sports competition coming up fairly soon. So, I'm playing roles of coach/trainer before they leave for the games. Last night, my Aunt J____ hosted the scandalous dinner party.

Today, since I have other relatives visiting the area, I'll catch up with them in the afternoon. Tonight I'm looking forward to Nigerian dinner night with friends!

BTW, enjoy what's left of the 4th of July holiday.
