Travel Plans while traveling through the Gulf area

I just finished making flight arrangements to New Orleans. I was surprised to get a direct flight this late, although I will leave from Dulles airport. Washington Reagan airport is conveniently closer to my home. It's a 10 minute cab drive.

I'm returning to the city for another business trip scheduled in mid August. Here are a couple tips I usually follow:

Typical Traveler Tip #1 --- Make flight arrangements 6 to 8 weeks in advance if attending a highly attended conference. In particular, if the conference schedules over 10,000 attendees, then book your flight and stay earlier.

Typical Traveler Tip #2 --- If traveling southward particularly along the Gulf states (like Louisiana, Florida), expect rain weather and possible storms during the summer and fall months. That means possible delays. Carry an extra bottle of water and a bag of trail mix if your airplane is stuck on the tarmac, which has happened a few times to me.

And, yes, I have considered that a hurricane may happen when I get there. It's going to be very humid during that season.

I'll be there for a week, and I don't expect too many changes since I was there last month.

Recovery is a dedicated process, and the city and I will make the best of it while I'm there. I plan to stop by my favorite jazz/blues store and Cafe Du Monde.

BTW, I'm running out of chicory coffee and tabasco sauce.
