Last Friday, Christ Church of Washington (informally called Christ Church on Embassy Row) hosted an African children's choir from Uganda. The group called Watoto sang a number of hymns and gospel songs with a definite African beat.
Very lively and rhythmic performance!
I enjoyed it immensely and I even got an opportunity to dance. The audience got an opportunity to join in the fun as the kids performed. Dave, one of the church members, is from Uganda and he participated by reading a prayer out load to the audience before the concert started.
The Children's Choir is traveling for a benefit to expand the ministry in Uganda. Most children come from broken homes where either their parents died of AIDS, poverty, or were abandoned. The kids gave their brave testimonies recovering from such horrible conditions.
Here are a couple pictures of the choir members after their amazing performance. Thanks to Andrew V. for forwarding the photos.
The choir singing and dancing during the concert. Note the colorful banners of Africa in the background.
The Church's Youth Pastors pose with the choir after the performance.
After seeing the people in concert and talking to fellow Ugandan/African friends from the church, I would consider visiting the country of Uganda and helping out. If you would like to support or get involved with the Watoto ministry, please click on the link.
