CakeLove..., Not feeling the Love

After staying a few hours at the trendy Shirlington Library, I decide to stop by the new CakeLove store just a few feet away from the building. (Yes, you heard me. A library can be quite cool.) As some of you precious readers already know, I'm a big fan of cupcakes. As a few of you already know, I am a big fan of local DC owners making it big on a grand scale. So, I am a big fan of CakeLove, the cupcake maker in DC proper.

I was happy as a young school boy when I saw that CakeLove-Shirlington location was open for business in the NoVa area. CakeLove has expanded from a single store in DC to Today was the day to visit the new store and sample what delectable delights were hidden inside. Alas, poor TravelingBeliever was treated poorly and he did not get his day of eating delish CakeLove treats. . .

A few years ago, I read about solicitations for possible locations for the next CakeLove location. As a CakeLove aficionado, I voted for a Northern Virginia location, like Shirlington.

Maybe it's just me. To my dismay, the service at this location was terrible! Allow me to describe the scenario. This store is quite small. There is a mere long bartender table to fit maybe 4 or 5 people. It looks like a very cool store. A couple of young, urban professional women were sitting at the lone table, while two young female workers were working behind the counter, chatting away about guys in the vicinity. An older woman was working at the register.

I approach the counter to view the precious treats. No one looks at me to ask about any service. An instant later, one of the young female workers blocks my view of the
counter. She points to one of the windows of the newer condos, and she mentions that she met one of the coolest guys who stopped by their store earlier. Very strange, I thought. How am I going to get an opportunity to decide what to get? So, they continue to talk without acknowledging my presence.

A few seconds later, a couple younger and hipper guys come into the store and the girls turn to them and start talking to them. They converse. Hmmmm, I really start getting annoyed. I stop looking at the cupcakes and that is when I decided to leave. It was one of the very few times that I felt invisible. Yes, I did feel like yelling that I was here as a customer, but I didn't think it was worth raising my voice for a mere cupcake.

So, I walk to the local Caribou Coffee for a latte and their French Toast muffin, which was quite good.

Can I say and ask the following?

They were totally UN-COOL.
They were totally unprofessional to a customer.
They were rude.
Is it time to de-link from the CakeLove website and Warren's blog?

I don't think that I will be going to this location anytime soon, and I'm pondering about sending a complaint. Warren, if you are reading this post, then I want you to know that I was not feeling any Love from the CakeLove-Shirlington location. Also, you may want to hire staff who are customer oriented.
