Good morning Metro MorningStar & Adios to Smiling S____.

This morning I visited the Metro MorningStar Church (DC location). From what Roz says, it is a fairly young church planted by the Metro MorningStar Church located in Sterling VA. There is another location in Annapolis MD. The Metro MorningStar Churches are closely associated with Every Nation Ministries.

The DC church service is currently held on the 3rd floor at the Gallery Place Theatres near the MCI Center. Although I have attended church services in theatres before (for example, PowerLunch DC), this was a totally different experience. She told me so much about the church. I decided to attend. Before service, I met Roz outside the theatre.

The praise and worship portion of the service was led by an anointed female singer along with an accompanying keyboard player and backup female singers. I can still remember her powerful voice. They sang contemporary praise songs.

What I also really liked about this church is that it was filled with people from different backgrounds, socioeconomic classes, and age groups. I instantly observed this when entering the service and watching the congregation gather inside. The service itself was truly Spirit filled.

I've got to warn you that the church is quite serious about their meet and greet. Not only do you shake hands and say "God Bless You", but 5 minutes is given for you to get acquainted with the person sitting next to you. So, you feel the need to fill those minutes with conversation.

The senior pastor did a wonderful job preaching on a Christian's role to aid the poor and widows. Not only did he cite the appropriate Scripture, but he brought in the application. He emphasized the church involvement with the Darryl Green Learning Center. After watching a 6 minute video and listening to the pastor, I realized how much this church had committed to assisting and educating the local youth through the center. Later, I learned that the pastor served as the director for the center at its inception. He did a great job weaving his testimony into this sermon.

Plenty of fruit yielded (results) as a couple graduates from the learning center who are now young adults gave their testimony about how people/volunteers at the learning center effectively mentored them when they were students struggling in school.

Today, after attending Metro MorningStar church 9 am service, I raced to my church on the other side of the city for the 10:30 am service. Roz and I were running late. After that service, our YA group said farewell to one of our own who will be leaving the country. He is moving down under. He accepted an economics research position at an Australian university and will continue to finish research on a particular economics text.

As part of our goodbye to smiling S____, a bunch of us took him out to the El Pollo Rico restaurant in Arlington VA.

This is a great place for excellent, quick, Peruvian rotisserie chicken at such an excellent price. The sides include fresh cut fries and good slaw. You may want to try the Inca cola. I usually don't care for it that much. I did try the purple corn cider for the first time. It reminds me of a thicker version of grape juice. Personally, I wanted to have it watered down because it was just too thick for my taste. It was good and went well with my meal, but it needed to be a little lighter. If you have enough room for it, get a dessert, either the rum cake or the caramel layered pastry. The desserts are nice way to end the meal

The full meal with drink and dessert merely cost $7.20.

Definitely a bargain! So much of a bargain that the restaurant is consistently listed in the Washingtonian Magazine's 100 Best Cheap Eats.

BTW, a couple things to note. This place is always packed and it has limited parking. I had to drive around the block a couple times to find a place to park.

Today's verse: Malachi 3:4-5 (New International Version)

4and the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will be acceptable to the LORD,
as in days gone by, as in former years.

5"So I will come near to you for judgment.
I will be quick to testify against sorcerers, adulterers and perjurers,
against those who defraud laborers of their wages,
who oppress the widows and the fatherless,
and deprive aliens of justice,
but do not fear me,"
says the LORD Almighty.

Don't quote me on MMS DC being a fairly young church. It's been around a while I think. You'd have to ask Z for the exact number of years.

Also the keyboardist accompanying the singer is actually the worship leader, Kevin Singleton. He has collaborated on a number of songs with Israel Houghton and has his own awesome ministry of singing and reaching out to teens and young people.

Poz-Roz, thanks for the clarification. I naturally *assumed* she was the praise leader. The band was quite good.

Unfortunately, I thought the time for praise and worship was a tad short.

Obviously, I will have to check out the music. Let me know if you have their CDs.
