Carrying the burden in downtown DC

Tonight, I was in a hurry to complete a church task and finish the assignment details for a client so I hurriedly ran errands so that I can get a partial feeling or sense of order back into my work life.

I must confess in the last few weeks that I'm felt a loss of self control. I reacted to pressures from various sources: work, ministries, life groups, church, personal, family.

As I was checking off items from my mental task list while driving down North Capital Street toward the Capital itself, I noticed a small group of people walking on the sidewalk with papers in hand. In the middle of the group was one single adult carrying a life size wooden cross.

What a symbol to see on a great Friday night!

Wow. It just shocked me to get back into the correct perspective about what Jesus did on this day. It reminded me again that the demands of this world don't really mean much in comparison.

I didn't find any adjacent parking so I drive around the block again.

There, at a different location I see that same group, and another group member is carrying the cross for other pedestrians, truck drivers, and passers-by in the neighborhood realize what today really means.

Some people ignored the group, others quickly glanced and turned around, and others watched the group.

See you next week.
