Well, another "National Day of Prayer" passed by us. If you had not realized it, the day was actually held yesterday. It is scheduled on the first Thursday in May of each year. Did you know President Truman first recognized the National Day of Prayer in 1952? That's what has been written.
Our YA group announced it early this week and held a prayer session on Tuesday for the church, pastors, and group members, and the small group appeared to have enjoyed the meeting.
In the WaPo, President Bush sponsored a White House celebration yesterday.
The official website is found here.
Also, here are a few news items across the nation about how people spent the day.
- Atlanta, GA --- They came, they prayed, they played.
Greeneville, TN --- Gathering meet at courthouse to pray for country.
Martinsville, IN --- Read of the Indiana Dream Team leading prayer.
Fayatteville, SC --- To seek is to find.
Santa Fe, NM --- "Loving your country is praying for it."
Akron, OH --- 90 yr old is dedicated to Rock Of Ages.
Dallas, TX
Washington, DC
I especially liked this article from Gainesville, FL. It talks about how the local communities gathered together for the first time in unified prayer. Even a Canadian pastor gives a nod to Americans for holding a national day of prayer says this Lima, OH article.
It's great to hear that other people are praying for Americans.
We definitely and obviously need it.
If you missed it this year, then next year I hope you will pencil this event in your 2007 calendar.
Talking about the *days*, did I mention that the day after tomorrow is Internet Evangelism Day?
You probably have noticed the banner located at the top right corner mentioning it, and I have talked about it in a previous post.
Out of curiousity, I typed in the following words in the Google Search ("internet evangelism day" 2006), and the search yielded as of today over 70,000 hits. That's great to see.
I'm wondering how many instances result from personal blogs?
