Guess who is coming to the service?

Well, it's a few minutes before I head out to a Young Adults Super Bowl party.

This is a quick post to let you know that I visited a local Northern Virginia church this morning. I was surprised to see a certain, former Attorney General in the church lobby. Once I passed the door, we both stared at each other for a moment.

I thought to myself and recognized the face. I took a second look at this person for confirmation.

What was he doing here?

I had read somewhere that he is an active AG believer, meaning an Assemblies of God believer. His father served in ministry for this denomination.

While in the lobby, I stop by to talk to one of the church members and get acquainted with the church. I later look at the brochure and the weekly bulletin. I see that his name is listed as a guest singer, along with a couple other gentlemen, to give a gospel medley.

Admittedly, I decided that he is a decent singer, and it was weird to see this former attorney general taking up the microphone at a church service.

I checked his wikipedia profile to find out that he has actually released an album! Also, he is an amateur sculptor.

Say what? Noooo.

Oh, yes.

About the church, it reminded me of a small mid-western, country church type of congregation with international flair. Some members I recognized from various countries. Also, high numbers of older members were there.

The choir was dressed in traditional church garments and sang traditional hymns. Like the congregation, most choir members were middle aged.

The atmosphere of this church was quite peaceful, and the members addressed each other lovingly before the service started. Bright colored banners were found alongside the walls with different scriptures, and a large screen was facing the crowd of approx. 150 members.

The sermon message was good and simple to grasp. The preacher talked about the faithfulness of God.

It was communion today at the church. Ashcroft later came up with the preacher and the elders to bless the bread and "wine". The pastor specifically asked for Ashcroft to pray over the bread.

Before the service ended, the preacher brought up an alter call. Ashcroft along with prayer leaders at the front of sanctuary were asked to pray for people with any needs.

It was an unforgettable service.

Well, it's time to check out the game.
