Unfortunately, I am not able to connect to my work e-mail account from the conference cyber cafe. Of course, I am concerned about what is going on back in the office, and I have not checked my work e-mail account since I left for Charleston on Tuesday afternoon.
Some snippets about the visit:
Right now, my spirit is feeling a little low due to a minor cough/cold thing that this body is fighting. Minor muscle aches are felt here and there, but nothing major to complain about.
The weather in Charleston has been averaging in the 30s/40s, which is highly unusual for this city during this time. (I was so hoping for some great warm weather. Oh well!) Numerous attendees are walking outside with their thick jackets and overcoats AND a few are wearing gloves, too, even if the sun is out and warms up during the day, while the local college students are wearing t-shirts and shorts as they skateboard along the main sidewalks.
What a contrast!
Compared to previous visits to this small, urbane city, there are some construction projects on the roads and major buildings getting built near the historic district, and my colleagues have noticed that the "mom and pop" shops on the main streets are no longer there.
The other night we sponsored a dinner at Anson's Restaurant, which is quite famous for their grits because the restaurant owners have their grits grinded on the premises. Excellent food, I will say! (I would recommend their lamb chops and their sugar beet and mandarin orange salad. Totally yum.)
As you probably already know about me, I have taken a few photography shots of the city during my off time. I hope to take more photos of the city today and tomorrow morning. I hope to post the better images to Flickr next Monday or Tuesday and post images on this blog sometime next week.
Tomorrow morning I head back to DC at 7:00 am, which means I need a taxi to pick me up from the hotel @ 5:30 am. Not fun. For the rest of the day after I arrive back to DC, I will probably take some rest/sleep. At this very moment, I cannot find my airport parking ticket. I am hoping, so hoping, that I left it in the car. It will be very annoying to explain about the loss of the ticket and trying to pay the right amount for parking.
