One interesting book to read is "The Prophetic Ministry" by Rick Joyner. Earlier this year, I saw this little gem at my local Christian bookstore under the Charismatic section. In the last few years, I've been drawn to hear more about this particular gifting and ministry and its role in God's kingdom. I've heard about many local churches where they have modern day prophets and prophetesses. Also, within the last 3 years, I've been given prophecies.
In regards to the book, the author's writing style is stilted in some places, especially in the beginning chapters. It was difficult to follow the author's thoughts in the first half of the book, as he explains about the prophetic gift. The book explains what is prophecy, how is prophecy to be used properly in the church, and how you can hear God's voice. He describes his personal experiences with the gift, and some mistakes that he and others have encountered. Although the book had some rough spots, it does have a few great chapters on the Watchmen and what he feels as the role of prophecy in the endtimes.
Some apologists, theologians, and cult watchers are highly suspicious of Rick's ministry. Some believe that he deals with dark mysticism, and his prophecies have been tested as false and does more harm.
Whether you believe or not believe in his prophetic ministry, you cannot deny that prophesy is a gift from God. As a believing co-worker had said to me recently, the prophetic gift is a wonderful gift, while another colleague said about prophecy, "yecch".
What do you think about prophecy?
Today's verse: Jeremiah 25:30 (King James Version)
Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, The LORD shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.
