"There's a new blog every five minutes," [B.L.] Ochman said, [a business blogger following online trends]. "Now everybody's got a printing press."
An interesting article was found at the WaPo site on bloggers, blogger profiles, and blogging behavior. Just a few interesting highlights from the report:
While many well-publicized blogs focus on politics, the most popular topic among bloggers is their life and experiences.
Bloggers are highly engaged with tech-based social interaction.
Text dominates most blogs, but one-third of bloggers post audio files.
The report sponsored by the Pew Internet & American Life Project is found here. A telephone interview was conducted for this study. In their summary of findings, the report states that most blogs are about personal experiences, which is not surprising. Not everyone talks about politics. I would think that a high percentage of bloggers are talking about technology-oriented topics.
I was surprised to see LiveJournal as the top site to display blogs, and MySpace came in as a close second. Another interesting fact --- 57 million people read blogs, while 12 million people keep blogs. What can we be writing about, that makes people want to read them?
I did find something that I see as an error. The report erroneously lists Blogspot as a separate blog site from Blogger. Blogspot received 2% of responses as a site where bloggers kept their blogs. It's not that I'm a pro Blogger supporter, but it's not considered a different place.
